Wow...I really regret not listening to podcasts before - thanks to my cousin reminding me that podcasts were a thing, I found these and wow... Thorough and comprehensive analyses, insightful ideas and theories and really engaging and natural presentation style. Season 8, episode 5I’m a recent listener. However, I have to wonder if the hosts and I have been watching the same show over the last 8 seasons. They seems to be surprised at the extreme turn that Dany takes (after watching the show for 8 seasons), but somehow they feel that Jon Snow who had only known Dany for a much shorter period of time to have guessed somehow that she might be unstable. In season 7, the show runners went out of their way to show Dany as a savior figure. An example is when they speak to Missandei about why she follows Dany. There is nothing she does with the Tarly family that I thought was out of line. An outsider might have seen her as unyielding (see Stannis or Tywin), but not unstable. By the way, why would he trust Varys who has a pretty sketchy reputation in Westeros, and a person he hardly knows? We may live Varys as a character. But let’s be real, is endangering the lives of children a good thing? Also, I’m not sure about the fascination with Sansa. Juts because the producers put the words “smartest person I know”, doesn’t mean it makes any sense. It’s like Cersei lives her children. Take a step back, is that really true. She clearly consistently puts her children in danger to gain power or be near power. Let’s put the Sansa thing to bed already. She admitted herself that she isn’t a strategists. She barely knows Dany but is apparently so smart that she doesn’t trust her. Based on what? Here’s the thing for the new Supposed “Littlefinger” of the show. If she really things that Dany is untrustworthy, then why trust an agreement you make with her? At the time, she still had the largest army and two dragons. Instead, Sansa (in her brilliant plan) creates instability (chaos, I guess) in a woman who had two dragons and a very powerful army. The result is that she killed thousands of people. So, now, this extremely powerful woman (with the largest army, who has won the favor of those who are fighting for her, and still has a very large dragon) is angry with her and her family. What is the upstate to Sansa’s planning? You’re complaining about how they were showing Jon as the only compassionate person, but don’t have a problem with him constantly being portrayed as dumb, just like Tyrion has been consistently dumb, etc. Varys, apparently is t very smart either. By the way, Arya was trying to save people and Dany has had seasons of being the person who is compassionate. By the way, Sansa has NOT been right about everything. The fact is Sansa’s breaking a vow to her family, which they emphasized, is the cause of pushing Dany over the edge. At the very least, it didn’t help. It created a cascade of events. As for Dany going mad, I don’t think that has to be the case. She’s inconsistent (leaves Daario to marry a king, but won’t marry the only king in Westeros, everyone needs to bend the knee, but not the Greyjoys, not liking people who try to kill little girls, but allying with the Sand Snakes who actually killed a little girl and a boy). She may be inconsistent and unbalanced, but I don’t think the madness to the level we saw has been apparent. By the way, Dany has been saved, but flew away and left her friends in an arena. She’s been saved constantly by magic. Lol. Here’s the very last thing (I hope), Jon hasn’t fought in an army that needed up raping people. And by the way (except for the producers), who rapes people with a city falling down on top of you. That is beyond bloodlust. That’s stupidity. I apologize for any typos. I’m typing in my phone.
