The Horror of Dolores Roach Reviews
Superb voice acting. Well paced, macabre, graphic, that is an audio adaptation of Victorian penny dreadful such as Sweeney Todd. I strongly disagree with accusations of racist and antisemitic stereotypes for a. This is not a social realist audio play, it is stylistic, genre- reviving macabre play. b. Stereotypes do not come out of nowhere but largely based on reality. Point is to not to avoid cliches or stereotypes but reduce whole people into them. Nuance is key. If the empanada maker is a Latino, it only makes sense that the landlord is a Hassidic Jew in contemporary Brooklyn. C’mon guys, get off your high horses.
I love it 💜💜
Listen, I read the bad reviews. All these people who say it was way too gross almost made me back out. There is worse stuff on TV. Come on people, the description says “cannibalism” in it. I don’t know what those people expected. They literally describe the taste of people as kinda like pork or beef. Done! Nothing else. The description of the dead bodies might have been a bit much but I’m not gonna come crying in a review when a show lists cannibalism in the description. Anyone who listens signed up for that and if you can’t handle it, that’s your beef because there are a ton of other people like me who can handle it and love the show. Just know your own limits before coming into the show and know when to back out if you need to and you’ll be all set. The narrative is very engaging and entertaining to listen to. I felt like I was there. I felt for these characters even though the show is a very quick listen. A shame that the bad review listed first almost had me turn tail and run. I really enjoyed this. Great work Gimlet!
Loved this podcast so much. Listened to the whole thing one night at work.

Excellent story!!! Very well acted..
Deliciously horrifying, delightfully disturbing, and phenomenally acted. Told from a really interesting perspective and incredibly immersive. I had no idea the horror genre could be so well suited to this format. Deserves to become a cult classic. Do yourself a favour and listen to the ending with your eyes closed!
Someone else has entitled their review “engrossing” and I concur with everything they said. This podcast is some messed up s*** but I also couldn’t stop listening! Compelling characters and brilliant acting! Sick as f*** but a very compelling story!
I've never found something so engrossing while being repelled by the direction the story was heading in. The writing and folley work is excellent, and the voice actors are brilliant.
A very clever reworking of a horror schlock classic. Great writing (well-observed dialogue and social commentary) and convincing performances, and genuinely cinematic soundtrack. Could maybe use some more background atmos noise to sell the environments. And this is a minor quibble, but the tie-in ads began referencing story details before they introduced in the show, so they acted as spoilers. Overall though, this is highly entertaining - I binged the whole season in one afternoon.
Can The Rock smell what Chuck Norris is cooking?
Listened to all episodes over only 2 days. Great acting, great plot. It all feels very real, the special sound effects make the show very immersive as well. GB
The best Empanadas in Town...(!).... this story is The Grit in the Oyster that makes the Podcast Pearl. GB
This is dark humour at its very best , going to be so upset when I catch up, loving every episode . I think I’m in love with Delores . GB
The most dangerous way to lose time is not to spend it having fun, but to spend it doing fake work. When you spend time having fun, you know you're being self-indulgent.
