It Was Simple: The Betty Broderick Murders Reviews
I was already familiar with the case, but there were some things in this podcast I didn’t like. While I certainly do not think anything is grounds for murder, Dan and Linda behaved like children. It’s easy to see how they prodded a sleeping bear. I truly believe Dan thought if he provoked Betty to act crazy enough, he could get out of paying her. It was all about money for him. Also, the narrator/writing acts like it’s unheard of for people to forget a traumatic experience. It’s not impossible that Betty truly remembers very little about the murder. Basic psychology on trauma explains that. Overall, the podcast has no new information, is short, and jumps around from subject to subject.
Great story. Horrible music. Would have liked to hear more about Linda’s story.
So. Much. Talking. And very little exact details about their lives. Just generalizations and lessons about “life at the time”. The podcaster talks constantly giving us little lessons. If you are not familiar with this case or seen any of the movies you’ll be annoyed even more. The whole second episode is a lesson on CA divorce law. Move on!!
The ads seem very out of place. Also advertising diamonds on a podcast about a woman who murdered her wealthy husband partly because he wouldn’t give her enough money seems a bit distasteful
Seems like an ad with a story in between.
There were a lot more advertisements than I am used to in a podcast show so that was a bit distracting. I also did not love the constant feminism reflections in the story (and I don’t mean that as a mark against feminism). I will probably seek other podcasts or shows about this case and not finish this one.
But it wasn’t. The Host is oddly obsessed with relating this all back to the Clintons, which is bizarre. I hadn’t ever heard this story before, and I think this could have been so much better.
Not good and not terrible.
You keep reminding us that numerous programs, films, articles etc. have covered this story, but don’t explain what new information/insights this podcast brings. It’s not clear what the purpose is.
I didn’t find anything new in this podcast. It felt like a fairly straight up retelling, presumably capitalising on the new TV show? Well narrated and produced, but flat.
It’s well balanced but complex, as humans are, and I can’t help but empathise with Betty but get a sense of both sides.
any thing you can do he can do better, Chuck Norris can do anything better than you
Listened to an episode and a half and then quit. The production style is problematic, with music seemingly incongruous to the story. The whole thing moves at glacier pace and jumps around without making any points. Poor. GB
It’s amazing how they can make drag out this story over so many episodes. It’s really not that interesting. Sorry! GB
