North Shields is a town on the north bank of the River Tyne, in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside,in the UK. It is located 13 km east of Newcastle upon Tyne. It has a population of 39,042.
Its name derives from Middle English schele meaning 'temporary sheds or huts (used by fishermen)' and still today, the area is synonymous with fishing and other trades associated with seafaring.
Here I go on a short walk through the town centre.
My channel on you tube : youtube.com/alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland. I have produced a number of films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occasional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects

Ah the Tyne Fish Bar, loved it there, i used to live down that street so used to go there all the time
My dad used to work for Stag Line and then my wife and I had to go to the Stag Line building 30 odd years later to process my wife's UK citizenship - its a very small world!
Pity about some of the negative comments on here..... wonder if those same people ever bothered to make their own video instead of criticising someone elses .... :-)

I grew up in North Shields from 1945 until I emigrated to Canada in 1968. I have many wonderful memories as a kid. The war had ended and it was a time of optimism. School was fun despite the teachers being strict. Nowadays (now that's a Geordie word) if a teacher as much as looks at a student the wrang way (yes, wrang is used deliberately) the teacher is in hot watter (deliberately used too). I loved my childhood and would not change it if given the chance. I was upset to see my childhood schools demolished, eg. Ralph Gardner. It feels as though my childhood has been erased. Had great parents and always felt safe growing up in Shields.

Happiness is as a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.
This North Shields! Memories
It must have been bustling during the sailing boat era. I am told there were 140(ish) pubs between the fish quay and the ferry landing. (manpower only, boats needed a large crew to sail, and this amount of pubs could be sustained) You need a few thousand customers to do that. Gives you an idea of how many boats used the port.
