Over My Dead Body Reviews
enjoyable to zone out to but didn't even realize last episode was last one because the story never really seemed to develop or have a true plot? season 1 a bit more thought out.
This review is just concerning Over My Dead Body. I’m not really sure how to rate this. Just started listening. I’m familiar with Big Cat Rescue and think very highly of them and Carole. People like Joe do not really care what is best for big cats. He practiced irresponsible breeding and care and ran a roadside zoo to make money and a name for himself. Big Cat Rescue does NOT breed big cats, they are there to rescue them from deplorable conditions and treatment. They believe big cats belong in the wild not kept as someone’s “pet”. For now I rated this 5 stars because I like to see attention brought to animal cruelty like Joe was promoting so people can learn how wrong it is. After listening to all episodes, I may change my rating if I think this podcast is negative to Big Cat Rescue. They are true heroes who we all should be grateful are there to help when they can give big cats a better life. Check out Big Cat Rescue on social media and/or their website, you will see they are advocating and working to help big cats in a humane way. As I am listening to the first episode, I am getting irritated in the way this seems slanted in favor of roadside Zoos and animal cruelty. First of all, animal rights activists would not poison his animals, they might like to poison people who abuse them like Joe, but never the animals. How can this guy say how much he loves animals and then treat them like he does? Exposing them to explosions in his “magic act”, running a petting zoo where the poor animals are kept so doped up so they will not become aggressive. Big cats are not pets, they are beautiful creatures but they are wild animals, you should never be petting them. Ugh, I feel so strongly about this, it’s hard to listen. I’m hoping this podcast will redeem itself soon. I will continue listening and hoping so. To be continued. The reason his animals are dying is because they have not received proper treatment, keeping animals in small cages and inhumane breeding practices like breeding lions and tigers together!! More mixed feelings after episode 2, I don’t like that the first half seems to blame Carole for things that she has never been proven to have done- almost like fake news. However episode 2 is starting to show just how bad this guy was and his horrible mistreatment of his animals and total disregard for ethics in his use of animals as a money maker. The research is in depth pretty much which is good , hoping that continues and hoping that all the good work Big Cat Rescue has done to help wild cats will be talked about in depth. Waiting for more episodes now. Starting episode 3 and I still think so far this podcast is favoring this “Joe Exotic” jerk who uses animals to make money. I’m hoping that the host is going to point out the many, many ways Joe did NOT treat his animals humanely and kindly. I actually have to stop and update this review when the listening is upsetting me by trying to make Big Cat Rescue look bad. They have done so much to help big cats and the conditions there are wonderful for these cats. They have super large grassy enclosed, safely fenced in, fed well and it’s not cheap to feed them. There is a veterinarian on staff and specialists are called in whenever needed. Big Cat Rescue is accredited by The Global Federation of Sanctuaries. The requirements to qualify for this are stringent. Joe and every other backyard breeding roadside zoo are Not!! Finally over halfway through episode 3 they are talking about the abuse that animals faced with Joe Exotic. I’m thankful they are starting to finally show what this guy is like. So far halfway through and waiting for episode 4. The biggest problem I have is that at least the first two episodes seem to favor Joe Exotic. I just don’t understand how there is anything good at all about this guy, there isn’t. He was abusing animals and using them for his own profit- a terrible person. I’m afraid that if someone just listens to the beginning of this and that’s all, that they will leave with a good impression of Joe and bad of Carole. I hope that doesn’t happen. So I’m going to see what the second half is like. The podcast style is fine so far and the hosts voice isn’t irritating to me, so that’s good.I finished all 6 episodes and decided to rate this 5 stars. The last few episodes show how evil and cruel Joe Exotic is. He only cares about animals if he can make money off of them, meanwhile causing many many animals to suffer and die. The main complaint I have with the Joe Exotic series is the way the first few episodes seem to almost favor him. In the end, Joe gets his Karma, it’s just perfect that he is locked up in a cage just as he did to so many big cats. However I wish he could experience suffering like he caused to innocent animals. All in all, the research seemed thorough and the story is told well. I just hope Joe Exotic is never released from prison.
It was alright. A podcast named “over my dead body” should leave listeners expecting a real murder.
Really like this podcast does a great job finding very interesting stories. Terrible anti-climactic ending to the current season
i think this is typical of a lot of Wondery podcasts, but this is addictive as heck killer stories, awesome audio & production, great hosts – just dope
Season 1 was excellent and kept me enthralled. I was completely bored by Season 2, the Joe Exotic story. Joe sounds like a very shallow and childish person and his nemesis doesn’t come off looking much better. I found the story dull and repetitive. I thought it had to get better but after 3 episodes it didn’t. I’m not interested in hearing stories about animal abuse or about 2 adults acting like children to get back at each other. BORING!!!
I love the podcast, and was excited about reaching the conclusion of Joe Exotic, however, episode 6 is missing. Please help!
Ummm...first of all animal “extremists” would never hurt an animal. If anything they rescue them but never ever hurt them. 😑
After listening to this, my heart went out to Dan’s parents. Wendy and her family are ruthless and cruel. Shame on all of them Adelsons I hope the Markels get justice. Their kids will find this all out when they’re old enough.
So far so good. Enjoyable and intriguing!
This is a great season!! Love the show I’m new to it! I love the small details! Can’t wait for EP 4 Also 5 and 6 :)
Especially loved the last ep. Good story well done 🐯
The first series is five stars. Joe Exotic is a lot of filler, stretching what is really a fairly uneventful story out over six episodes. There are also way too many adverts in the second series.
Interesting stories by great presenters.
Chuck Norris once punched a cyclops between the eye.
What a story so far - each of the people involved are so diverse and extremely well described. All the intrigue of fiction but incredibly it’s a true story.
First series was better but it is just dragged out and full of filler!! Just finished the second series as I felt compelled to but don’t bother!! GB
I’ve been fighting with myself weather I should review this podcast or not. The story is interesting and the amount of work that had to be done to achieve this many people tell their stories, from their perspectives to fully picture the case of Danny is marvelous. I just don’t like the style of narration. I find myself lost quite a lot and I wish there were summaries of what we know and what happened and what’s going on more often so we could fully comprehend the level of crazy and complicated in this podcast. But all in all it’s a good production. Thanks a lot for your work. As much as this is not 5 star review I truly appreciate your work. (Narration in Culpable or To live and die in LA are more what I was looking for) Maria GB
Good for listening to in the car and amazing that this is real .... but where is the last episode? GB
All action results from thought, so it is thoughts that matter.
